Résumé :
In this paper I offer a new critical edition of the Encomium in s.
Agatham (BHG 38) by Methodius, patriarch of Constantinople (843-847), with
an Italian translation and commentary notes. This text was most likely recited in
Constantinople, during the last years of Theophilus’ empire. One of the purposes
of the Encomium was to promote the cult of the Sicilian martyr, and Methodius
exploits “the miracle of oil” that occurred on the feast day of the saint under the
eyes of all. This critical edition uses for the first time the codex Lesbiensis S. Ioannis
Theologi 7, which proves invaluable for the constitutio textus.
