TEXTUAL TRADITION AS AGENT OF literariness : The homily of Dorotheos of Mytilene on the siege of Constantinople (1422) This work examines the homily of Dorotheos, Bishop of Mytilene, on the siege of Constantinople (1422) in the context of the literary production of its era, and also those elements of equivalent earlier texts that play an important part in shaping its literariness. The re-edition of the text, which in fact is merely a compilation of passages lifted directly from Photios’ two homilies on the Russian siege of Constantinople in 860, does not rely solely on the codex which contains it, but also takes into account the manuscripts containing Photios’ homilies. The textual variants in the manuscripts and the mistakes or corrections of the first edition are noted in the apparatus criticus, and an apparatus fontium is added.
